Title: All Saints, Terling
Location: Terling, Essex
Camera: Braun Paxette IIM / Pointikar 45mm f/2.8
Film: Ilford Delta 100 (expired)
Notes: Here’s another Essex Church from my A-Z list, this time Terling with its unusually shaped tower and spire.

Title: All Saints, Ulting
Location: Ulting, Essex
Camera: Voigtländer Vito B / Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.8
Film: Afga APX100
Notes: Originally I was going to photograph the A-Z of Essex Churches in alphabetical order. But today I found myself at Ulting and realised I probably wouldn’t see it in such splendid weather when I next come this way, so decided to do this one a bit early in the list. I love this viewpoint of the church across the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation. The churchyard itself is right on the water’s edge, very peaceful, and is one of my favourite locations in Essex.

Title: Holy Trinity, Pleshey
Location: Pleshey, Essex
Camera: Voigtländer Vito B / Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.8
Film: Afga APX100
Notes: I went to Pleshey today for a walk to find some geocaches. The church was another on my A-Z Essex Churches list, so I made the effort to take the picture while I was passing.

Title: St. Giles And All Saints, Orsett
Location: Orsett, Essex
Camera: Voigtländer Vito B / Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.8
Film: Afga APX100
Notes: I realised I’m a bit behind with my churches project, so resolved to tackle the next on my list, Orsett. It’s quite a large building but the side with the tower isn’t easy to photograph well.

Title: St. Thomas The Apostle, Navestock
Location: Navestock, Essex
Camera: Univex Mercury II (CX) / Universal Tricor 35mm f/2.7
Film: Kodak Tri-X 400 (expired)
Notes: I’ve been testing out my Univex Mercury II camera recently – it’s a half-frame 35mm format camera, so those rolls of 36 never seem to end! Instead I tried some expired Kodak Tri-X 400 which I’ve had kicking about for a while – it only has 20 full frames, so it didn’t take an age to finish the roll. Here we are at Navestock for a visit to the Church.

Title: All Saints, Messing
Location: Messing, Essex
Camera: Franke & Heidecke Rolleiflex T1 / Tessar 75mm f/3.5
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: Another church to visit today, for my Essex Churches A-Z. All Saints, Messing has a fine square tower. I enjoyed using the Rolleiflex again – it’s been sitting on the shelf since mid-June.

Title: St. Clements, Leigh-on-Sea
Location: Leigh-on-Sea, Essex
Camera: Kodak Bantam Special Art Deco / Kodak Anastigmat Ektar 45mm f/2
Film: Kodak Tri-X 400
Notes: Testing out my Bantam Special Art Deco 828 rollfilm camera today, with a trip to Leigh-on-Sea. This is St. Clement’s Church at the top of the hill, another in the bag for the Essex Churches list. The Bantam was loaded with 35mm film respooled onto an 828 roll (Kodak Tri-X 400 from B&H in New York), hence the sprocket holes. I also have some expired original 828 film, but I didn’t want to use that for the camera test – I always try to use fresh film stock when testing so I know if anything goes wrong, it’s the camera not the film. It looks like the spool here is a bit leaky around the edges, but I guess that adds to the charm!
