Southend-on-Sea is a large coastal resort on the Thames Estuary in Essex. It boasts the longest pleasure pier in the world at 7080ft (2195m) which was opened in 1890. It has an electric railway which runs from the shore to the pierhead if you don’t want to walk the 1.3miles along the boardwalk! You can read more on the history of Southend Pier on the NPS website. Read more about my visit to the pier on 10th June.
