Title: Skeggy Sunshine
Location: Skegness Pier, Lincolnshire
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 50mm EF f/1.4 USM
Notes: This couple were enjoying the summer sunshine on Skegness Pier when I visited this afternoon. It doesn’t look busy from this viewpoint, but just off camera, the pier was heaving with folks making the most of it.

Title: Dangerous Bin!
Location: Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 50mm EF f/1.4 USM
Notes: I wasn’t sure why this bin was surrounded by cones and hazard tape, but I thought it best to keep my distance – it may bite!
January ’14 – Review
Despite one of the wettest Januaries on record, I managed lots of great picture opportunities to start the year. First of all, I enjoyed a great Birthday Outing for lunch with Alistair on 1st Jan:

The next day, we headed to the Essex coast at Shoeburyness to find a few geocaches and tried not to get blown away. The outing also provided me with images of Stranger #32 – Tracy and 50 @ 50 (2014) #1 as well as some great seascapes:

All the recent rain has saturated the rives and watercourses, as we found at Paper Mill Lock on 3rd January. The water level was very high and rushing over the top of the lock gates:

A couple of days later, we were back at the canal but this time all the way downstream looking for Abstracts at Heybridge Basin. Here’s another:

On 8th Jan I found 50 @ 50 (2014) #2 – I’m always a sucker for the lighting pavement at Whitecross Place and the rainy pavement was a perfect reflector for the lights.
At the next weekend I ventured up to Norwich to buy a couple of things from Wex Photographic and decided to stop off at Southwold on the way home. Here’s Southwold In Sepia, as well as a view of the lovely sunset:

A couple of days later I embarked on a major new project – Underground Overground. The destination for the day was the Bakerloo Line. Here’s one from the day’s shoot:

The next day, I took it a bit easier after my frantic rush around London. Back to the calming waters of the canal at Beeleigh Lock:

I also found a rather nice mono image there, Thy Lock Overfloweth.
The pace of photography slowed in the second half of the month, with work, my tax return and the weather taking over. But I did find some more great mono images: Marble Quadrants, Flooded Fields, The Morning Mist and Triangle And Cross as well as another 50 @ 50 (2014) #3 before the end of the month.
Finally, I closed with a review of some of the Self-Portrait out takes for January. Tee hee.

Let’s hope February brings us some sunshine!
Slouching At Southwold
On my way back from Wex Photographic today, I stopped off to catch the last rays of the sunshine at the seaside in Southwold:

There’s a lovely old pier that the golden rays were striking:

On the pier I enjoyed a delicious cream tea with a crab:

This was the view of the old lighthouse from our seat:

December ’13 – Review
December was relatively quiet for pictures, compared to November. The first outing was to the Christmas Fair in Billericay with friends on a photowalk.

A few days later I went for a Tropical Flutter in South Woodham Ferrers to find some butterflies to photograph:

I managed to finish off my [email protected] 2013 project this month with three final pictures, #48 in London, #49 in Chelmsford and #50 in Broadstairs. The last one was found during my stay for Christmas By The Sea in Kent:

The final outing of the year was a spot of Caching In Colchester with Alistair. This abstract at First Sight arts centre nearly made it for picture of the day:

I was also pleased to have completed my Photo A Day Treasure Hunt 2013 with the last image on Day #2181.
