Another varied and enjoyable month of mono image making. Join me in November ’13 for the next month-long stint. In the meantime, I will be posting random monochrome images here which I feel you may like to see.

Title: The Scent Of Wild Garlic
Location: Urpeth, County Durham
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: We went on another long geocaching walk today, this time on a loop around the village of Urpeth near Chester-le-Street. The terrain was varied and followed the Team Valley for some of the route. There was plenty of wildlife to be seen, and the scent of wild garlic accompanied us on much of the walk in the wooded areas. Read more about today’s Rural Ramble.
Title: Sluggish
Location: Quayside, Newcastle
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: Alistair and I went on a 21-mile bike ride today to Newburn and back, along both banks of the Tyne. The weather when we set off was grey and grainy, just like this picture of The Sage across the water in Gateshead. It’s known locally as The Shiny Slug. I was feeling pretty sluggish by the time we rode back into town! My poor legs…
Title: At The Gates
Location: Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 50mm EF f/1.4 USM
Notes: These crazy gates are in the Ouseburn Valley at the entrance to the Ouseburn Farm, a calm oasis in the heart of Newcastle.
Title: Anarchy
Location: Wallsend, Newcastle
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: Today we were back on our bikes again, this time for a 10 mile ride. I’m always a sucker for graffiti; I noticed this A on the cycle path bridge across the road near Wallsend. A bit of gritty Holga treatment has given it some punch.
Title: Hello, Your Majesty
Location: Newcastle
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 50mm EF f/1.4 USM
Notes: I spotted this street art while looking for a geocache in Newcastle this afternoon with Alistair. I thought Queenie would make a great image for today’s Mono MayHem shot.
Title: Furrows
Location: Ferrybridge, Yorkshire
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: Agricultural furrows seen near Ferrybridge Power Station, while Alistair and I stopped for a brief geocaching walk today on our way up to Newcastle. I was fascinated by the way the furrows converged.
