Location: Dedham Churchyard, Essex
Camera: Canon EOS 650 / Sigma 21-35mm EF
Film: Ilford FP4 125
Notes: A cold wintery sunlight was peeking through the clouds when I saw this rather fine Celtic Cross in the churchyard. The low angle of light was perfect for accentuating the relief of the mason’s carving, tempered by the lichen growing on the cross’ surface. The bare tree branches in the background help to give this an extra-bleak feel, reminding us of the cycle of life and death. This was one of the 10 images I used to gain my LRPS distinction in 1995.
