Day #2134

Day #2134Title: In A Bubble
Location: Hylands Park, Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 8-15mm Fisheye EF f/4 L USM
Notes: It was a beautiful sunny autumn afternoon. This was made during a photowalk with a couple of friends in Hylands Park. I thought I would give my fisheye lens a bit of a spin – on the 5D, it’s a full circular image at the 8mm end (and full-frame fisheye at 15mm). I thought this made the scene look like it was contained in a bubble.

Day #2117Title: Aim High
Location: Ropemaker Street, London
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 50mm EF f/1.4 USM
Notes: Another scene captured on my way to work this morning, along Ropemaker Street by Citypoint Tower. Today’s also my first assessment hurdle towards my FRPS. If you don’t look up and aim high, you’ll end up shooting low, as they say. Anyway, I spent most of the day fretting, waiting for news, which didn’t come. I hope that’s a good sign? Hopefully I’ll know tomorrow if I made it through to Stage 2…

Day #2046Title: Pink Clouds & Grasses
Location: Galleywood Common
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 40mm EF f/2.8 STM
Notes: I had plenty of location opportunities for pictures in London today, but not nearly enough time to take advantage of them. So by the time I got back to the station on the way home, I had not made a single image. Not wishing to resort to some macro shots in the studio, I took a detour while driving home and evoentually the sunset presented itself in a pleasing manner at my favourite sunset watching spot on Galleywood Common. The barbed wire and grasses provided a bit of foreground interest.

Day #1999Title: Solstice Sundown
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100-400mm EF f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Notes: I had thought I would do something else for today’s image, but it was a pretty lame idea. However, even 1999 days in, this project continues to surprise me. Having been a grim, grey, wet day I wasn’t expecting to see a sunset this evening. But viewing a friend’s sunset image from yesterday on the laptop prompted me to look out of the window and there it was! By the time I had found my camera, fitted my long lens and poked them out of the window, I could still see some colour in the clouds and framed up the neighbours’ roof and chimney to give an interesting silhouette shape. There you go, job done!

Day #1905Title: She Sails No More
Location: Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 10-22mm EF-S f/3.5-4.5 USM
Notes: This evening I gave my talk and demo on High Speed Photography/Water splashes to Brighton & Hove Camera Club. The forecast promised sunny weather during the afternoon, so I made my way down in plenty of time to enjoy a late picnic lunch by this old boat wreck on the banks of the Adur in Shoreham-by-Sea. It’s a pretty clichéd image location for many local photographers, but being a “foreigner” from North Of  The River (Thames) I thought I’d make it my picture of the day – look at those wonderful clouds! I also enjoyed a potter over the Old Toll Bridge in the distance, and further afield on Shoreham Beach before munching a hearty fish & chip supper in the High Street and then heading east to Hove for my evening of fun. B&HCC were very welcoming and asked lots of questions, so a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all.
