Day #2098

Day #2098Title: On Guard
Location: Bletchley Park, Bedfordshire
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Notes: This fine sculptured Griffin is one of a pair guarding the door to the Mansion house at Bletchley Park, another detail found during the Over The Air conference. It’s a great historic location and well worth a visit.

Day #2044Title: The Goldsmiths
Location: Barbican, London
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: I walked to work through the Barbican Centre this morning and took one of my usual routes. But I looked around a bit more than usual and spotted this frieze near the entrance on Fann Street. There was another plaque nearby which provided some history:

This frieze was removed from numbers 53 and 54 Barbican when it was demolished in 1962 and re-erected by the Corporation of London in 1975. Numbers 53 and 54 Barbican were the premises of W Bryer & Sons Gold Refiners and Assayers whose trade is depicted in the frieze. The building was one of the few who which survived when the area was largely destroyed by incendiary bombs in December 1940.

Day #2034Title: Ride The Wave
Location: Blackpool, Lancashire
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: I finally arrived in Blackpool this afternoon and met up with Alistair before we headed off to the pre-BarCampBlackpool nosh in the centre of town. The venue was near this sculpture, The Wave, which provided a striking image for the day. The Cybermen enjoyed their day at the seaside too. And I found some interesting North Shore Shadows for my mono shot today.

Day #2023Title: Hole In The Wall – Repainted
Location: Chelmsford
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: I last photographed this wall nearly three years ago on Day #1060 – when it showed some interesting patina to the old paint. I’ve noticed over the past few weeks that the owner has been renovating the panels one by one and repainting them in vibrant colours. So I thought this would make a good subject for today’s image.

Day #1973Title: Clear For Takeoff
Location: Civic Centre, Newcastle
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 8-15mm Fisheye EF f/4 L USM
Notes: After a couple of hours at the new Maker Space venue today, Alistair and I embarked on a long geocaching walk around Newcastle and to find some images for the day. We passed the Civic Centre as the sun was blazing down – the sculpture of these geese taking off from  the pond made a great addition to the scene. It also makes a perfect shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #29 – Things With Wings.

Day #1882Title: Miro’s Ladder
Location: The Gibberd Garden, Harlow
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Notes: The Chelmsford Photowalk Flickr group finally met up again today after a break of almost 3 months. We visited The Gibberd Garden near Harlow, which has around 90 different sculptures dotted around the grounds of the house once owned by renowned architect and town planner, Sir Frederick Gibberd. It was great to catch up with the folks again, and even though the weather was cold and grey, we had a fun time wandering around finding images. We might also have sampled the tea and cakes in the tearoom! This is a detail from a piece called Miro’s Ladder by artist Tim Monks. I loved the rich blues and reds of the stained glass.
