Day #2174

Day #2174Title: Liquid Colours On The Pavement
Location: Silk Street, Barbican
Camera: Canon EOS 100D / 40mm EF f/2.8 STM
Notes: After heavy showers this afternoon, the streets were awash with reflections on my walk home. The lights at the entrance to the Barbican on Silk Street provided some great colour.

Day #2095Title: The Giant Staircase
Location:  Barbican, London
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF5 / 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS Pancake
Notes: I’ve lost count how many times I’ve wandered through the Barbican Centre, but I’m still finding new locations for pictures. This giant staircase descends from one of the exits to the Conservatory. I liked the silly scale of it.

Day #2073Title: Frobisher Crescent
Location: Barbican, London
Camera: Canon EOS 5D MkIII / 17-40mm EF f/4 L USM
Notes: I loved the contrast between the blue sky and yellow signage at the Barbican as I passed by today. This is near Frobisher Crescent on one of the high level walkways.

Day #2060Title: An Urban Sunrise
Location: Whitecross Street, London
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 /14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS
Notes: I’ve passed this BT Line Box several times this week and thought it should make picture of the day. Today was the day! It’s been decorated with some bright and cheerful patterns of a tree and sunrise – much more uplifting than the boring old dark green colour which most of these tend to be.

Day #2047Title: Domine Dirige Nos
Location: Barbican Centre, London
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 40mm EF f/2.8 STM
Notes: I’ve been wondering what to do for the Treasure Hunt Theme #40 – Mythical Beasts for some time. And today I spotted these two very fine dragons adorning the City of London coat of arms at The Barbican Centre. Perfect!

Day #2044Title: The Goldsmiths
Location: Barbican, London
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: I walked to work through the Barbican Centre this morning and took one of my usual routes. But I looked around a bit more than usual and spotted this frieze near the entrance on Fann Street. There was another plaque nearby which provided some history:

This frieze was removed from numbers 53 and 54 Barbican when it was demolished in 1962 and re-erected by the Corporation of London in 1975. Numbers 53 and 54 Barbican were the premises of W Bryer & Sons Gold Refiners and Assayers whose trade is depicted in the frieze. The building was one of the few who which survived when the area was largely destroyed by incendiary bombs in December 1940.

Day #1936Title: Vaulted Squares
Location: Barbican Centre, London
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 /14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 IOS
Notes: I went on an impromptu photowalk through the Barbican this evening after work. I’ve photographed the ceiling in the foyer before on Day #1352, but went for a slightly different approach this time. The mono shot of The Ramp nearby nearly made it for today’s image too.
