Day #1910

Day #1910Title: Colour Cream Chaos
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Strobist: 1 x YN560 from top LHS, bare @ 1/64; 1 x YN560 from bottom RHS and LHS, bare @ 1/64
Notes: Another quick crown splash session in my studio this evening – this time messing about with some cream and food colouring. I liked the randomness of this one.

Day #1909Title: Sandford Mill Footbridge – March
Location: Sandford Mill
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 10-22mm EF-S f/3.5-4.5 USM
Notes: I thought it was about time for another visit to Sandford Mill for Treasure Hunt Theme #03 – Once A Month – March. It’s been snowing again here – so much for the arrival of Spring after the Vernal Equinox! We’ve had about 5cm of settled snow, although it looks like less here – it’s a fairly exposed spot and I think the howling easterly wind was blowing a lot of it elsewhere. I decided mono would suit the mood. Coincidentally, it was exactly five years ago today that we had a dusting of snow on Easter Sunday.

Day #1908Title: Don’t Drink The Water
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Strobist: 1 x YN560 from top LHS, bare @ 1/64; 1 x YN560 from top RHS, bare @ 1/64
Notes: Not quite what I had intended for this evening’s splash session, but things weren’t working out right. I was trying a different liquid which didn’t behave as expected. Oh well, there’s always another day.

Day #1907Title: Fault Line
Location: Chelmsford, Essex
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: There’s a wall at the edge of the car park near the Essex Records Office which has been derelict for some time. It’s a favourite of graffiti artists who love to paint and overpaint their designs on it. The art changes each time I visit. I’m drawn to colour and details, and often make images from small sections of the bigger pictures. I liked the fault line running through this – the boundary between two of the concrete slabs which make up the wall. I thought it would make an excellent image for Treasure Hunt Theme #42 – Graffiti.

Day #1906Title: Etchings
Location: Toot Hill, Essex
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: It was the Essex Geocachers’ social meeting this evening, which happens every couple of months at different pubs around the county. Basically, it’s an excuse for a pint and a natter. The Green Man at Toot Hill was this month’s destination – indoors they have some fine etched glass mirrors on the walls which I rather liked.

Day #1905Title: She Sails No More
Location: Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 10-22mm EF-S f/3.5-4.5 USM
Notes: This evening I gave my talk and demo on High Speed Photography/Water splashes to Brighton & Hove Camera Club. The forecast promised sunny weather during the afternoon, so I made my way down in plenty of time to enjoy a late picnic lunch by this old boat wreck on the banks of the Adur in Shoreham-by-Sea. It’s a pretty clichéd image location for many local photographers, but being a “foreigner” from North Of  The River (Thames) I thought I’d make it my picture of the day – look at those wonderful clouds! I also enjoyed a potter over the Old Toll Bridge in the distance, and further afield on Shoreham Beach before munching a hearty fish & chip supper in the High Street and then heading east to Hove for my evening of fun. B&HCC were very welcoming and asked lots of questions, so a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all.

Day #1904Title: Smashing Rainbows
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Strobist: 1 x YN560 from behind @ 1/64; 1 x YN560 from RHS through Opteka gridded snoot @ 1/64
Notes: More fun in the studio today, this time some splash crowns using a DVD-R as the base. It looked like something was smashing up the rainbows into their constituent colours!
