Title: Face Down November (Inclement Weather Edition)
Location: Heybridge Basin
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 10-22mm EF-S f/3.5-4.5 USM
Notes: This wasn’t the location I originally had in mind for this month’s Face Down Tuesday. Initially I was going to shoot it at Paper Mill Lock which is about 5 miles from home, but I tried driving there today only to find the road closed due to severe flooding. No chance of getting anywhere near. So I journeyed further down the canal – all 13 miles – to the outlet at Heybridge Basin where it empties into the Blackwater Estuary via a tidal lock. Hardly a soul about today – and not surprising – due to the persistent drizzle. I was lucky to get this in the bag and drive home again before the deluge started in earnest once more.

Title: Refraction Distraction

Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Notes: A late night commute home, pouring rain and some defocussed lights provide something interesting – an abstract made from nothing.

Title: After Autumn Rain
Location: Mark’s Hall, Coggeshall
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 45-200mm f/4-5.6 IOS
Notes: Despite the potential for rain, we decided to head out to Mark’s Hall for the October Chelmsford Photowalk. We didn’t get wet (it rained while we were driving there) but the light was mainly grey and flat. The sun came out for about 20 minutes at one point, during which we ran round finding as many things to photograph as possible. These amazing pinky red leaves glistening with raindrops caught my eye.

Title: Ragged Fungi
Location: Theydon Mount
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: I was out geocaching today and found these fungi in a churchyard at Theydon Mount. They were a bit ragged, but the only specimens I’ve seen so far this autumn.

Title: Light Blue
Location: Great Notley
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: We endured a grotty day weather-wise before I took Ken to Great Notley Photography Club to give his excellent talk on photographing Mountain Light. Afterwards we retired to the pub with a few members for more enlightening after-show chat. This was made in the pub garden on the way in.

Title: Underground Seepage
Location: Great Portland Street, London
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: Having passed this wonderfully crusty London Underground roundel nearly every day for the past three months, today I thought it was time to stop and take a picture. It’s perfect for Treasure Hunt Theme #14 – Underground.
