Title: Heavy Frosting
Location: Galleywood Common
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Notes: Winter has arrived with a vengeance – and a very heavy frost. I set out for a lovely 5-mile walk today, taking a big loop to Galleywood Common and back home. I was extremely glad of my thermals and woolly hat! Even though a lot of the frost had melted in sunnier locations, there were still plenty of wonderfully iced leaves in shady parts of the common. I loved the effect the frost had on this braken.

Notes: These caught my eye as I was taking a walk in Hanningfield Reservoir Nature Reserve. I loved their golden colour against the creamy smooth bokeh in the background.

Title: Turning Leaf Sumak
Location: The Flitch Way, Rayne
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 100mm EF f/2.8 L IS USM
Notes: I was out having a little potter along the Flitch Way in Rayne this afternoon, when I spotted the wonderful autumnal colours of these Sumak leaves. The tree has always been one of my favourites, it provides spectacular colour this time of year. So I went in close with the macro lens to capture it in all its glory.

Title: After Autumn Rain
Location: Mark’s Hall, Coggeshall
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 45-200mm f/4-5.6 IOS
Notes: Despite the potential for rain, we decided to head out to Mark’s Hall for the October Chelmsford Photowalk. We didn’t get wet (it rained while we were driving there) but the light was mainly grey and flat. The sun came out for about 20 minutes at one point, during which we ran round finding as many things to photograph as possible. These amazing pinky red leaves glistening with raindrops caught my eye.

Notes: A low angle gives a different perspective on a familiar scene. I thought this would make a good shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #70 – Worm’s Eye View.

Title: Pine Needles
Location: Galleywood Common
Camera: Canon PowerShot G12
Notes: Despite the humidity and hot weather today, I managed to take a quick trip this evening to Galleywood Common and caught this picture of some fresh green pine needles against the sun. Spikey.
