Day #1622

Day #1622 Title: Vintage Commute
Location: North Weald
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Dad and I visited the newly-reopened Epping to Ongar Railway this afternoon. It last saw passenger service as part of the London Underground Central Line in 1994, when this part of the line closed. Dedicated volunteers have worked hard to restore the line which now runs a steam and diesel service, plus vintage buses each weekend. Although the weather was a bit iffy to begin with, it was a good outing to scout for possible scenic locations to photograph the steam at a later date. This carriage was what took us from North Weald to Ongar behind a little green tank engine. It struck me how much room you used to get in 3rd Class – one seat on the right, and two on the left. These days you have to cram five bodies into the same width with 2+3 seats across in modern “cattle class”. I’d rather go back to this, even if it did have rather bouncy springs! I can almost remember this vintage of carriage on early trips to London I made 25+ years ago. I thought this would make a good shot for Treasure Hunt Theme #35 – Memories.
