Day #1392

Day #1392 Title: Attention To Detail
Location: Crossness Pumping Station, Belvedere, Kent
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: The Chelmsford Photowalk Flickr group spent a very enjoyable afternoon at the Crossness Pumping Station open day today. It is a fine example of high Victorian engineering, which had fallen into disrepair for 50 years but is slowly being brought back to life. The building houses four of the largest beam engines in the world. One has been restored to fully working order, whilst the other three are in the process of being  renovated by dedicated volunteers. There were loads of photo opportunities, despite there being quite a few visitors there for the last open day of 2011. This shot shows the meticulously restored iron railings around the central octagon. An obliging shaft of sunlight made the details really stand out.

Day #1319 Title: The Purple Man
Location: York
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I spent a rather damp soggy day in York, finding some geocaches and trying to avoid the tourist traps. On the way back to the station, I passed this “living statue” – The Purple Man Of York. Couldn’t resist making him my pic of the day!

Day #1305 Title: Through The Square Window
Location: Heybridge Basin
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I enjoyed an evening photoshoot with the folks from GNPC today. We went to Heybridge Basin which is always good for photographic opportunities. Several of us were also in need of some dinner, and so we ordered food at The Jolly Sailor and sat outside waiting for it. Initially, the light was rather flat and boring so we didn’t mind not taking picutres, but then the sun broke through and the food still hadn’t arrived! I took this shot of the pub door from the outside table whilst waiting for my plate to arrive. One of the three themes we were looking for during the shoot was squares, so this fitted the bill nicely. I was also very pleased to have found another willing stranger for my project before everyone else turned up.

Day #1301 Title: FOOLS
Location: BarCamp Nottingham
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Day two of BarCamp Nottingham and a small group of us decided to go on a quick geocaching and photowalk mission on Sunday afternoon. FOOLS! I found this bit of graffiti near the awesome Nottingham Hackspace which was our great venue for the weekend.
