Day #930

Day #930 Title: Summer Teasel
Location: Ulting
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 60mm EF-S f/2.8 USM
Notes: Having spent the day at home polishing off various jobs, I went out for a drive this evening to Ulting, intending to photograph the sunset. However, I had slightly miscalculated the position in the sky at this time of year, and didn’t get the shot I wanted. I did find this teasel in flower, however, and as I’m more used to seeing them dried up in the autumn, I thought I would record it for posterity.

Day #903 Title: Resting On A Thistle
Location: Port Holme Meadow, Godmanchester
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 60mm EF-S f/2.8 USM
Notes: I drove Alistair back to Huntingdon to pick up his car from the garage today, and after dropping him off I took a quick walk along the river Ouse at Godmanchester. This rather obliging butterfly was resting on a thistle. The 60mm macro lens was rather effective. I think it’s a Large Skipper. And it makes a good find for Treasure Hunt Theme #46 – Small Creature.

Day #893 Title: Thistle Experiment
Location: Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 60mm EF-S f/2.8 USM
Notes: I have finally succumbed to an upgrade of DSLR, my 30D having done 3 hard years’ labour and it’s looking a little the worse for wear. I had been weighing up my options and eventually decided on the Canon EOS 7D. It arrived this morning. I was initially disappointed (only with the weather!) that I could not go out to play as it was dreary and cold. But by the afternoon things had perked up and I nipped into town to buy a new neck strap for it, and take a wander around. This is a thistle growing by the river, with a background of one of the life belts by the water. It’s straight out of the camera. I think I’m going to enjoy using this!
