Title: Hylands House
Location: Hylands Park, Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I’ve been meaning to photograph Hylands House for months, for the Treasure Hunt Theme #75 – Your Nearest Tourist Attraction, but there was always a good excuse or better shot elsewhere. It’s a mere 1.3 miles from my house, as the crow flies. Today, there was some brilliant sunshine promised – I just had to wait about half an hour for it to break through the clouds. I think I was well rewarded. The magnificent early Georgian building was built in 1730 and is open to the public on limited days, but the 574 acres of parkland are open throughout the year. It’s best avoided during August, however, when there are tens of thousands of music lovers who descend on the park for the annual V Festival. It also takes a few weeks to prepare the park beforehand, and clear it up again afterwards!

Title: Galleywood Shadows
Location: Galleywood Common
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: A busy day at the computer today, launching an important website. Eventually it went live and I was able to nip out for a bit to catch some late evening shadows on Galleywood Common.

Title: Protracted Shadows
Location: Downham
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm EF f/1.7
Notes: I was trying to solve a geometry puzzle today, to do with geocaching. So I had to get out the protractor and note book to scribble in. I liked the shadows falling on the page.

Title: Piero’s
Location: Ingatestone
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Today I really noticed the nights begin to draw in. It was dark by 7pm. So I took the camera for a wander around Ingatestone to see what I could find. Piero’s sign attracted my attention, particularly the shadows cast on the wall next to it.
