Day #838

Day #838Title: London Hill – April
Location: Galleywood
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm EF f/1.7
Notes: I noticed it was a foggy start to the day, despite bright blue skies later on. So I made the effort to visit London Hill for April’s image on the way to the station for work this morning. A good addition for Treasure Hunt Theme 04 – Scenic Location, April.

Day #816Title: London Hill – March
Location: Galleywood
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 17-85mm EF f/4-5.6 IS USM
Notes: It’s been a while since I’ve taken London Hill, and I was beginning to run out of March for this month’s shot. So I was pleased that this evening, the weather was a little better to make a dusk shot at the location. I waited around for some traffic to come down the hill and used a 6 second exposure to capture the trails made by the brakelights as it passed. So this is my effort for Treasure Hunt Theme 03 – Scenic Location, March.

Day #781 Title: The Long Way Home
Location: Thorndon Country Park
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm EF f/1.7
Notes: There was a geocaching event in Thorndon Country Park today and there were plenty of new caches to find. I went along with Alistair and we got rather lucky with the weather – it didn’t rain, although it was rather wet and muddy underfoot at times. This was the view as we made our way back to the car after finding the last cache of the day. I loved the shadows of the wavy fence railings.

Day #767 Title: London Hill – February
Location: Galleywood
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Today has been a day full of news, and for patience finally paying off. Don’t they say that:

Good things come to those who wait…

First thing, I received a deposit cheque from a client to commence a medium-sized project – one which I first quoted for back in February 2009! And then at lunchtime, I heard from some more folks who want me to do a much larger piece of work for them, starting with some consultancy in the next couple of weeks. So that put me in a very good mood, considering the past few months have been very barren in terms of earnings, and the savings are beginning to wear rather thin. Then I noticed the sun was out and thought I should head to London Hill to take my February view for Treasure Hunt Theme #2 Scenic Location – February. Just as I arrived at the right spot, the sun went in! But I hung around for a while, took some other pictures and waited for it to emerge. After a few minutes by the roadside, I noticed a poor cyclist puffing his way up the hill and knew this would be the shot I wanted. So I waited… and waited… and as soon as he reached the patch of sunshine – click!

Day #761

Day #761 Title: Reflections On Renzo
Location: New Compton Street, London
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I spent a great day in London at a workshop on Urban Abstract Photography with Photosocialise. We had a short presentation first, then went out shooting for 2½ hours before coming back to have some of our work appraised. It was a fab day with plenty of sun and blue sky. Whilst this isn’t the most abstract shot I took today, I really liked the colours and reflective disruption in the water. It’s one of Renzo Piano‘s latest works which is being put up in St Giles High Street. I realise it’s quite similar to yesterday’s shot too, but that’s how things go sometimes.

Day #760 Title: Shire Hall & Oak Leaf
Location: Chelmsford
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm EF f/1.7
Notes: This afternoon’s weather wasn’t promising: when I left home it was beginning to sleet. Then we had a very impressive hailstorm whilst I was having a meeting in town – it nearly drummed so hard on the coffee shop conservatory roof that we had trouble hearing ourselves think! But once the meeting was done, I had another couple of errands to run in town, and by the time I’d completed them the sun had come out. This is a view of one of Chelmsford’s few “iconic” buidlings (we seem to be sadly lacking in seminal architecture as a Borough) – the Shire Hall, which stands at the top of the now pedestrianised High Street. In a puddle, for good measure. Ideal for Treasure Hunt theme 39 Urban Fragments.

Day #744 Title: A Night On The Town
Location: Chelmsford
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm EF f/1.7
Notes: Not exactly rock & roll, I know. But I met some local geocachers at the pub this evening for the first regular Essex get-together. This was a quick shot along Parkway as I walked back to the car park. A good one for Treasure Hunt Theme 26 – Low Light.
