Title: Bows
Location: Southwick
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm EF f/1.7
Notes: I drove down to West Sussex today as I was booked to judge a print competition at Steyning Camera Club this evening, on the recommendation of fellow Photo-A-Day veteran Ken Scott. Arriving during the afternoon, I went for a potter along the canal at nearby Southwick and found the bows of this boat with its peeling paint. After an excellent dinner in Shoreham with the club’s programme secretary Malcolm Bull, the evening itself went well and I got some very positive feedback from the club members, whose work I greatly enjoyed seeing.

Title: Pulteney Weir
Location: Queens Square, Bath
Camera: Panasonic Lumix GF1 / 20mm EF f/1.7
Notes: We enjoyed a nice Sunday morning walk whilst at BathCamp today, it blew the cobwebs away and was a chance to get out before it rained. This is a view of Pulteney Weir from Pierrepont Street. I loved the golden autumn colours.

Title: o V l
Location: Maldon
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Well, it’s a milestone I wasn’t ever intending to aim for, but here we are! What better way to celebrate than to go out on a photoshoot with friends, I thought. Although the friends played ball, the weather didn’t. So four of us trudged around a very wet quayside at Maldon for a while and then decided to retire to the pub! This was the locking mechanism of one of the hold covers on a Thames Barge, moored at the Quay. It was the best I could do given the miserable weather – so perhaps a good one for Treasure Hunt Theme #58 – Frustrated!

Title: Shifty Shadows
Location: Hoe Mill Lock, Chelmsford
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: We went for a walk along the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation this evening, and found the shadows of two shady characters lurking on the side of a boat.

Title: Casting Off
Location: Calmac Ferry, Barra
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Time to head home. I caught the early ferry from Castlebay to Oban and then had a long drive back to Carlisle on the first leg of my return journey. Not many opportunities for pictures, as the weather had packed up! These two gents were winding the ropes on the stern of CalMac’s ferry as we cast off from the harbour in Castlebay.

Location: North Uist
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: It was another sunny day with plenty of blue sky and fluffy clouds. I started out with another great walk at a local beach near Hosta, visited Lochmaddy and toured the northern end of North Uist again, before finding another little unexplored road to drive down. This time it lead me to a small jetty on Grìminis where they were unloading the day’s catch. This strong abstract reflection made a good find for Treasure Hunt Theme #22 – Colours.

Title: Air à Chuan
Location: Off Dunvegan Head, The Little Minch
Camera: Canon EOS 7D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: After a gloriously sunny morning where I explored the Trotternish peninisula on Skye, I then headed to Uig to catch the ferry to Lochmaddy. The coastguard vessel Anglian Sovereign (a long way from home?) passed us as we rounded Dunvegan Head. I loved the light on the water, and thought this would make a good find for Treasure Hunt Theme #68 – From A Boat.
