Title: Jaws
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 50mm EF f/1.8 + 12mm extension tube
Notes: This week’s 52Themes2009 topic is Shapes In Nature. I thought this bit of my Aloe Vera looked like a crocodile’s mouth! A bitey shape, perhaps? Anyway, it fits the bill rather well.

Title: Seed Head
Location: Ingatestone
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 50mm EF f/1.8 + 12mm extension tube
Notes: I went to help a friend buy a new TV this afternoon, and she very kindly cooked us some dinner afterwards. Before we ate, I had a wander around her garden and found these Agapanthus seed heads. It also fits in rather well with this week’s 52Themes2009 subject, Bokeh.

Title: Sunflower Kitchen
Location: Calne, Wiltshire
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Today I went to stay with friends David & Rachel who used to live close by but moved to Wiltshire about 10 years ago. We have kept in touch since, but I haven’t been to see them for ages. So as I was on the way to Somerset for the weekend, I arranged to stop by and catch up with them and their two kiddies as another [email protected] event. This lovely sunflower was one which they grew in their garden, and was in a very simple vase on their kitchen table.

Title: Meadow Impression
Location: Great Notley Country Park
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 50mm EF f/1.8 + 12mm extension tube
Notes: I spent the afternoon wandering around the country park at Great Notley, whilst on the hunt for geocaches and butterflies. One part has an area set aside for meadow flowers, and getting down low, I caught this Six Spot Burnet moth feeding on a flower. I took some which were much more sharp and well defined, but I liked this soft shot the best – it is straight out of the camera – no cropping, levels or fancy filters. Who needs Photoshop when you have an f/1.8 aperture? 😉

Title: Feeling Blue
Location: Wivenhoe
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 50mm EF f/1.8 + 12mm extension tube
Notes: I’ve had a bad day! My work laptop decided to die on me this morning, and no matter what I did, I could not coax it back into life. Eventually, I admitted defeat and took it along to a local guy who fixes them – no fix, no fee! Then I headed off to visit my parents as planned. We had a wander around Dedham during the afternoon – usually a good place for images – but the weather was about as glum as my mood. Of course, once we got home, out came the sun. So I found this little hoverfly floating about on one of Mum’s Agapanthus on the patio. A little bit later, PC Man rang to say he had managed to get the laptop going, so I shall pick it up tomorrow when I get home from my visit. Hopefully, things are looking up.

Title: Emergence
Location: Hyde Hall, Essex
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 50mm EF f/1.8 + 12mm extension tube
Notes: I saw another friend for a [email protected] event today (hat trick!). Ann is a very keen gardener, and having seen the excellent weather forecast, I phoned her this morning and we decided to take an impromptu visit to the RHS Gardens at Hyde Hall. We spent the morning happily pottering about, poking amongst the plants and enjoying a cream tea. Then we had a lovely summery lunch on her patio followed by lots of chat. Make hay while the sun shines!

Title: Pink Ladies
Location: Shenfield
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: We went for a quick caching expedition late this afternoon, around a little bit of common land in Shenfield. These plants were being backlit by the sun, and I thought they looked rather nice. A little bit of Orton gave them an extra soft appearance.
