Notes: I survived two trips into town today, madness I know. But I needed something for tomorrow to go with The Present™ and the first one I bought was not the right size when I got it home. So I had to make another lightining raid late in the afternoon for a refund, and search out an alternative which actually turned out to be much better. And so did my photography – on the first trip, the weather was grey and horrible and I didn’t take a single frame. But later on, the dusk was fallling and some nice lights were on in the High Street. I have photographed this window before, on Day #65, but it never hurts to revist things, you can often make a different shot. And with that, we have reached the end of another year. Will you join me as I continue my journey through 2010?

Notes: The Birthday Fairies™ delivered my present a couple of days early today. I’m being very good and not opening it until 1st January. But suffice it to say that I will be getting a lot of use out of the contents during 2010. Can’t wait!

Notes: Our Chelmsford Flickr group took a walk in the Nature Reserve at Little Waltham this morning. There was plenty of frost about, and ice lingering in some of the pools and rivers. This stretch of ice held our attention for a while.

Notes: I had intended to take a trip to Maldon for the annual Mud Race today, but I got half way there and the traffic was silly, so I detoured to Burnham instead. The sun came out as I walked along the promenade, breaking through the clouds. I took a few pictures and then enjoyed a nice cup of tea and a toasted teacake in a little café looking at the water.

We started in Central Park and made our way (via a nice, warm coffee shop!) out to Baddow Meads and along the river. While we were in Central Park, this cyclist passed us by on the bike half of the path. I just managed to catch him as he rode by on the ice.

Notes: Originally, I had intended to stay at home snug and warm after my exertions yesterday, and I have another long hike planned for tomorrow. But when I looked outside first thing, the sun was shining. I couldn’t resist the lure of a few more pictures, so took a cautious walk on the icy pavements to a nearby park. I’m glad I did – some more wonderful images were to be had, and there was barely a soul to be seen at 10am – all the other folks were probably at home snug and warm like I should have been. But there’s the old adage:

There’s no such thing as the wrong sort of weather, just the wrong sort of clothing.

And since I had gone out well prepared, I wasn’t actually very cold at all. Having said that, I was glad of the cuppa when I got home an hour later!

Notes: I could so live somewhere where the snow settles and stays for weeks on end. I love the stuff. And today we got the first decent fall of this winter. So I took off for a 4-mile walk around Galleywood Common, where I made this image, close to the location of Day #399. Then I braved a trip to Ulting in the car, and another 1.5 mile walk to see All Saints Church in the snow. Lovely.

But I’ve been struggling to come up with anything remotely original for a picture, and today is the last day I can take it. So I decided a bit of lateral thinking was required. Around Christmas (it’s only next week, Yikes!), we can get a bit naughty with the amount we eat. So here is a nice, calorie-free meal for you – go on, you won’t put on a pound. Especially as these are not much bigger than a £1 coin ;-)

Notes: I was in town for a meeting today, and used a short cut alleyway between the High Street and a local car park. I’ve been that way before, but not very often. Today I noticed these two Banksie-esque pigeons cooing to each other on the wall. Most people just didn’t notice them, but that’s what the Photo A Day does for you – makes you see things you would otherwise pass by oblivious.

Notes: We had a very heavy frost overnight, and in some places,  it hung around all day where the sun didn’t shine. I had to take the car for an MOT and service early this morning, and spent some time in Gloucester Park and Noak Bridge Nature Reserve in Basildon while I was waiting for it. These leaves were in a dim corner of the Nature Reserve and were still perfectly preserved with their icy coating.
