Day #189Title: Intersections
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes:
I was flattered to win the Four Elements competition, and chose “Lines & Curves” for this week’s theme. As it was thundering outside, I decided to have a mess about with some indoor photography. This is what I came up with.

Day #145Title: Layers Of Shadow
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Spent the morning doing chores around the house, and the afternoon mowing the lawn and tidying the garden before the impending deluge we are promised tomorrow. Late in the afternoon, I was sitting pulling weeds and throwing them into the plastic canvas collection bag when I noticed how nice their shadows were against the side of the material. This is just as seen, I haven’t done any Photoshop fiddling, apart from Levels and a slight crop. I find these sort of pictures out of nothing to be quite satisfying, as is having a tidy garden again!

Day #104Title: Rainbow Pews
Location: East Bergholt Church
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: The weather was sunny and blue when I woke up, so I spent a pleasant Sunday morning pottering round Flatford Mill, a place I hadn’t visited in 15 years or more. When the crowds got too busy, I decided to head to East Bergholt to photograph the Bell Cage at the Church. But the clouds were rolling in, so I went inside for a quick look around after the service had finished. It was still overcast, apart from about 20 seconds as I looked at one of the side aisles, when wonderful rainbow light came through the stained glass windows at the top of the main nave and illuminated the pew ends and flagstones. It was so fleeting, I managed only three shots before the light was gone for good.

Day #92Title: Exploring Blue
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 50mm EF f/1.8 + 12mm extension tube
Notes: I’ve been really busy preparing a presentation for a meeting tomorrow, but managed to find the time to have more fun with everyday objects. This is the top from a water bottle with a sports cap. Add a desk lamp and you get some great patterns and shadows.

Day #88Title: Exploring Red
Location: At home
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 50mm EF f/1.8
Notes: Inspired by some single-colour portrait shots on Flickr, I decided I’d spend the next few days exploring the colour spectrum. And it’s dark and rainy outside again, so some table top photography will cheer me up. The first colour is Red, and this little chair fitted the bill perfectly.

Day #55

Day #55Title: Ring My Bell
Location: Great Baddow, Essex
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 17-85mm EF-S f/4-5.6 IS USM
Notes: Went for a 6.5 mile walk this morning, with a local Flickr friend. The sun was shining, which was a bonus neither of us were expecting. We did a big loop via Sandon, Grace’s Cross, and the Canal at Sandon Mill, finishing back in Great Baddow. This was towards the end of the hike, when I spotted some attractive old cottages from across the road. The shadows of the bell pull were rather nice. And in the end, this was the one I liked best from all of today’s shots.

Day #37

Day #37Title: 12 O’Clock Shadow
Location: Tile Kiln, Chelmsford
Camera: Canon Ixus 850IS compact
Notes: Went for a walk to get some air and buy some food, now I feel like eating again. Wasn’t terribly inspired, despite the sun shining. But this caught my eye as I wandered past someone’s front garden. I thought it suited a mono treatment.
