Title: Croxton’s Mill
Location: Little Waltham

Notes: It was a sunny day, but bitterly cold for most of it. Nevertheless, Alistair and I set out for a day’s geocaching mission around Little Waltham and Broomfield. The Nature Reserve is a lovely place to walk and for the most part, the sun shone. By the time we had completed the caches here, the light was beginning to fade and it was freezing. But we then headed south to Galleywood to look for a special 500 Finds Geocoin in one of my cache hides, as it was Alistair’s 500th geocache. Can’t imagine how that got there. Not that he’s an addict, or anything

Title: A Chink In The Clouds

Notes: I managed to snatch a few minutes in the park this afternoon, in between showers and meetings. I liked the silhouette of Galleywood Church on the horizon, framed by these two trees.

Title: Down By The Pond

Notes: I spent a lovely day exploring various parts of the 22-mile footpath, the Centenary Circle, which rings Chelmsford. It was pretty cold and windy, but the sun was out most of the time and I got some great pictures. In fact, I had trouble choosing which image to use as The One for the day. The duck pond at Writtle won.

Title: On The Right Track

Notes: I had a lunchtime meeting in Marks Tey today, and so set off a little bit early to have a quick walk and look for a couple of caches. To begin with, the weather wasn’t very promising, but on my way back to the car, the sun poked through the clouds for a couple of seconds and I was able to capture this view with wonderful light.

Notes: I had an errand to run in Ingatestone this lunch time, so took the opportunity to have a quick walk near Fryerning Church while the sun was out. I rather liked the shadow of this tree against the bare brown field.

Title: Sandford Mill Reflections

Notes: One of the joys of being a freelancer is being able to arrange your working hours to suit yourself. Having been stuck behind my desk all day yesterday, I had a productive morning today, and so decided to bunk off for an hour or so this afternoon – I needed to go out to buy more printer ink anyway – so I took a walk along the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation at Sandford Lock. It was a wonderfully sunny afternoon with a light wind and blue sky. These narrowboats were begging to have their picture taken!

Notes: It was another changeable day with blustery showers and brief patches of sun. I managed to nip out during one of the rare sunny periods, and took a little drive to Margaretting Tye and Stock. This was on the road between the two.

Title: After The Storm
Location: Little Cambridge, near Great Dunmow

Notes: I had an all-day meeting in Saffron Waldon today, and on the way back, the heavens opened and the rain poured down so hard I had to stop a couple of times – I couldn’t see out of the windscreen, even with extra-fast wipe running. The roads were awash with flash floods, and the driving was really difficult. However, further along the road, it was virtually bone dry and the clouds parted briefly to reveal the sun. This was the scene at Little Cambridge, a few miles north of Great Dunmow on the B184.

Title: Summer Meadow
Location: Near Royston, Herts

Notes: I stayed near Cambridge with friends last night, and decided to cut across country on the way home to see if I could find any pictures. As I was motoring down the A10 just south of Royston, I saw this meadow from the road. I was just cursing the lack of places to stop when a lay-by hove into view. A few yards back, I found a convenient gap in the hedge, but had to negotiate a steep ditch and a patch of stinging nettles – rueing the decision to wear cropped trousers – before I was able to get into the field. But it was worth it as this vista opened up.

Title: Saturday Cricket
Location: Mountnessing

Notes: Despite dire predictions for today’s weather, it was actually a lovely day. The big fluffy clouds, against the blue sky would make a perfect backdrop for a picture of Mountnessing Windmill, so that’s where I visited around lunchtime. I took a few pictures just of the mill, and then noticed they were gearing up for a cricket match. I haven’t photographed cricket for ages, so I hung around for a while at the boundary and took some action shots, as well as this wider setting.

Notes: Exploring the fields around Ingatestone for today’s picture, I liked the way this ear of corn did its own thing, and really stood out from its neighbours.

Notes: Spent all day working hard finishing off client work, as well as putting the finishing touches to my own revamped photo website. As the light was fading, I went out to get a takeaway – making a detour via this scene – a reprise of Easter Sunday, a rather different view this time.
