Notes: It was a sunny day, but bitterly cold for most of it. Nevertheless, Alistair and I set out for a day’s geocaching mission around Little Waltham and Broomfield. The Nature Reserve is a lovely place to walk and for the most part, the sun shone. By the time we had completed the caches here, the light was beginning to fade and it was freezing. But we then headed south to Galleywood to look for a special 500 Finds Geocoin in one of my cache hides, as it was Alistair’s 500th geocache. Can’t imagine how that got there. Not that he’s an addict, or anything

Notes: I had a meeting in Maldon this morning, and took a few grey, damp shots on my way home, but I wasn’t particularly happy with them. So when I went to London for another meeting this evening, I took the camera along. My friend showed me a new building just behind Exchange Square at Liverpool Street, which has some dramatic architecture and was trimmed up for Christmas. It’s a great place for photos, and no “jobsworthy” security guards in sight!

Notes: An utterly foul day, weatherwise, today. It rained and rained. In the evening, I was in London for the BBC Backstage Christmas party, held for the London web dev community. It was a short walk from Liverpool Street, but a damp one! This was just outside Citypoint. I took some others without people in, but just liked the way this couple accidentally walked into the frame, huddling under their brolly.

Location: Sheffield
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 17-85mm EF f/4-5.6 IS USM
Notes: The morning dawned cold and foggy, and by evening it was back to that too. But for an hour or so in the early afternoon, the sun came out and I was able to dash out for a few photos close to the BarCampSheffield2 venue. This sculpture, Cutting Edge, is located on the pedestrian walkway from the main Railway station and the sun was hitting it in just the right angle for a good picture. We went out geocaching later on, and I got some atmospheric dusk fog shots too, but I still liked this one best for today’s image.

The weather wasn’t particularly kind to us, and this quick shot was one I grabbed on the way to the after-conference party. The wind was howling around, but thankfully the rain stopped briefly!

Location: Brighton
Notes: I travelled down to Brighton this afternoon ready for a conference tomorrow and over the weekend. It was great to catch up with some friends who I haven’t seen for ages. We took a walk around the town, dodging the heavy showers. This puddle was reflecting some of the Pavillion’s minarets quite nicely. A lot of the building is currently in scaffolding, so it’s a bit difficult to get a decent shot of the whole thing.

Location: Stock Windmill
Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: Another meeting in Stock today, so afterwards I took a detour to the Windmill to see if I could get some pictures. It’s a terribly difficult building to photograph well – the sails always seem to be pointing in the wrong direction, and the mill itself is jammed up against the boundary of a pretty small field. The best view is from the neighbour’s garden, but this is up a private driveway, so unless you know the locals, it’s a bit hopeless! Anyway, I thought I would sneak up and under it’s nose and see what sort of picture that made. Had to wait a few minutes for the sun to come out, but I think it was worth it in the end.
