We ended up at the Thames Barges in Maldon Quay, and this was a bit of a reprise of the location of my May 11th shot, with a twist – of rope, no sun and about 25 degrees colder!

Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I had meetings in Linton and Cambridge today, and it was a lovely blue sky day so I took the camera out with me for five minutes at lunchtime. I found some fairly routine shots of old buildings around Linton, and was resigning myself to using one of those when I happened to see a new little Fiat parked on the street. I first noticed the badge on the front grille, but was stopped in my tracks by this tricoleur on the side – with some great water droplets to add some more texture. The sidelighting was hitting it at just the right angle.

Notes: I went to a business networking Christmas Lunch at a very posh country hotel today. On the way, I spotted this sign as I was driving down the A1060, and nearly crashed the car laughing. But there was nowhere to stop, and I would have been late for the meeting. However, on the way back, I managed to find somewhere to pull over and walked back to take the picture. Watch out for Rudolfs on the carriageway!

Once again, geocaching has taken me to a spot which I didn’t even know existed, and it’s lovely. It’s along the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation, just downstream of the Essex Record Office, and is about the last bit of civilisation before you hit the more rural paths along the canal.

So much for being “guaranteed by 1pm”. Notes: One of the joys of being a freelancer is being able to arrange your working hours to suit yourself. Having been stuck behind my desk all day yesterday, I had a productive morning today, and so decided to bunk off for an hour or so this afternoon – I needed to go out to buy more printer ink anyway – so I took a walk along the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation at Sandford Lock. It was a wonderfully sunny afternoon with a light wind and blue sky. These narrowboats were begging to have their picture taken!

Camera: Canon EOS 30D / 24-105mm EF f/4 L IS USM
Notes: I was supposed to visit a friend’s photographic exhibition in Whitstable today, but the Bank Holiday/road works traffic was so bad on the M25, that I bailed out at Thurrock and came back via the A13 and A128 to Brentwood. Seeing as the weather was so nice, I stopped for a walk around Herongate and Thorndon Park and enjoyed an ice cream in the visitors’ centre.
